I’m popping up at two LA holiday shopping events very soon ✨

Friday December 9th | Litt Concept House in Sherman Oaks is hosting a festive bazaar. Here’s your link to rsvp so we can have plenty of sweets and treats on hand.

Saturday December10th | Smooth N’ Purdys annual Sip n’ Shop will be happening in Glendale. No rsvp required, just bring yourself!

Both events are sure to be filled with fun times and cheer— and if you’ve ever wished that you could try on my pieces in person… wish granted! I’ll be bringing lots of pieces {in new colors!!!} including: kimono robes and sweatshirts and hand marbled kids clothing. Sneak peeks on Instagram to follow ❤️

And now, November!

Adventures in natural dyeing |

I extracted color from logwood chips → created an immersion bath → and dipped my pre-painted/mordanted pieces from alllll the way back in September.

While the pot was still simmering (but the heat had been turned off), I threw in mordant and quickly bundled and added a kimono robe… which I promptly forgot about, and remembered found two days later. Yay me!

Once cooled {two days later} I bottled up the purple potion leftovers into glass droppers for watercoloring.

Here’s a groovy little video:

I love this process because it’s like grown up magic markers.

Creating a design by hand stamping + free drawing with nearly invisible ink → letting the pieces dry/properly cure for at least three days → the design “disappears” → when you’re ready, dip into a fresh dye bath and see your designs come to life.

Education |

Lucky for me, I had another reason to use my liquid logwood right away—

Cara Marie Piazza, an amazing artist and friend I met at Porfirio Gutíerrez’ studio, taught a Painting on Paper with Natural Dyes class over Zoom.

From here on out, I’ll just be walking around picking up sticks and plants to turn into paint brushes.

For my first attempt on paper I went simple: water, fresh flowers, liquid logwood. That’s it.

Painting the piece also gave me inspiration for a class The Sweetzer Life and I have now brainstormed for 2023! Dates tbd, but {Sweetzer} Tiff will kick things off with a flower arranging experience (yes, you’ll be taking a creation home)— followed by a botanical art project, using our cast off clippings for a day of zero waste delight. Not only will you have the most fun… but you’ll also walk away with two treasures to keep and all kinds of new skills— and probably some friends, because that’s how we roll.

Back to dyeing for me— because I’ve only got a week to finish everything I want to bring to the pop ups. I hope to see you at one or both! ✌🏻
