We got so much rain in LA π§ ππ» And because I prefer to work with studio doors wide open, I spent the majority of my time counting inventory and crunching taxes.
So, just a few show and tells for the month:
One day I woke up, threw on some black business socks π€·ββοΈ and decided to sling some tetradic* colors around, using a few simple {non-traditional} techniques. Itβs not how I usually dyeβ but it made me really happy. Like elevated finger painting. I wish I wouldβve really soaked the pieces in wayyy more colorβ¦ but filming a process tends to divide my attention, and mistakes can be made.
*Describing tetradic colors as βspecial, nervous, very aggressive and in need of a sensitive approachβ makes me giggle. I donβt think colors should be feared, though I see people struggle with using them oftenβ in my career as a makeup artist as well as when Iβm painting, quilting or dyeing. I think any combination of colors can be beautiful, and shouldnβt be treated overly precious. Use color freely if it excites youβ the more the better.
New seeds from Botanical Colors for the dye garden π±
Poppy and I started the Murasaki and Tango Cosmos to be transplanted, and weβll direct plant the Safflower next month. I canβt wait to be lousy with {non GMO} dye flowers! Sadly, all of my dahlias have died offβ but Iβve got calendula and marigolds blooming for days.
I love this beauty so very much and sheβs currently available. So many layers of color went into making her, including the eleventy million tiny rainbow star sprinkle stitches. Itβs not your typical sweatshirtβ I couldn't make a match again if I triedβ itβs a piece of art waiting to be someoneβs very favorite sweatshirt. Like a hug and a smile every time you see it.
