Archie’s quilt began as a prototype quilt top for “Molly + Cooper’s Quilt” commission (2025).
I’d written this (↓) pattern as a first draft for the M+C quilt, and wanted to see how it looked in full scale before proceeding with disassembling and cutting the teeny-tiny bandanas.
I will always think of Archie’s quilt and Molly + Copper’s Quilt as sister pieces.
I used odds and ends from my fabric stash for the colorful rectangular pieces, and mixed dead stock for the white border.

↓ Flip side | fabric (dyed drop cloth style) with a white linen border.
I hand quilted the entire piece over many months, stitching lines and designs without a finished pattern in mind.
I began with a section of stars, before moving to line work, that changed to geometric shapes, ending in symbols.
I even quilted random images through both sides of the quilt, with all the stitch work showing on the back.
The more I sewed, the more my friend Archie would come to mind as I stitched… and that’s how I got the feeling it was meant for her.
Once I knew, I added symbols with her in mind— like the bow, the rainbow, and the portal of blessings.
The “sun” was a fun excuse for me to practice an embroidery stitch I’d really been digging.

I could’ve kept stitching and stitching never-ending designs and details, but decided to call it complete for me here.
I’d be excited if Archie ever added to it with embellishments of her own. We’ll have to see!
