Xs and Os
You remember my bff, Liberty Worth— fellow textile arteest and the goddess who taught me how to sew for realsies? Yes— excellent.
One of her many specialities is designing and creating beautiful memorial/memory quilts, and I had the honor of assisting her on a project.
I created a quilt top and nine pillow fronts, using blouses— which were sent onward for specialist assembly and long arm quilting.

Size: 5’ x 5’
Pattern: Xs and Os
I made a sample square (with scraps) to get comfy with the design, and got to prepping.
While I had ample yardage to work with, I still wanted to be mindful of the pieces I used.
I chose the sections of clothing that I found visually dynamic and cut strategically, creating remnants that were also of useable size for further projects (and limiting landfill waste).
All fabrics were ironed, half were interfaced, then deconstructed and cut into squares.
Light solids played as the background, while darker prints served as the Xs andOs.
Once I’d decided on the color pairings, it was time to assemble the squares.
Layout options were sent to the customer, to choose their favorite arrangement.
Here’s the top pieced together:
